New York Outrigger is proud to announce the Liberty Luau’s return to the Hudson River. The Liberty Luau officially closes the 2008 Liberty World Outrigger Competition to be held on Saturday, June 28.

The Liberty 2008 Luau will be held at The Frying Pan located at Pier 66a in the Hudson River Park at 12th Avenue and West 26th Street. The luau will take place between 6:30pm-Midnight. Liberty paddlers gain free admission. All are welcome. Non-paddlers can purchase tickets in advance during race registration and at the welcome table during the race at Brooklyn Bridge Park for $20. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $30.

Admission will include a luau buffet dinner and Coors beer while supplies last.

Entertainment is coordinated through the efforts of Halawai, a non-profit organization committed to building and supporting a community of people who share a common background or interest in Hawai‘i. In the tradition of extended ‘ohana (family), Hālāwai perpetuates the aloha spirit by bringing people together and providing a gathering place. Traditional dancers will be accompanied by Andy Wang and Friends. Andy plays traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar and sings Hawaiian music from the heart. He has become an ambassador of this art, delighting audiences across the east coast.

Raffle tickets will also be sold during the night, at race registration and during the race. The drawing will occur between 9:30-10pm. You need not be present to claim your prize (please make sure your contact information is on the raffle ticket). Prizes include a pair of round-trip tickets on Continental Airlines within the contiguous 48 states, Canada, Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean, paddles courtesy of Kialoa and sunglasses from Maui Jim Sunglasses.
